Matt had visions of designing an outdoor game that would be enjoyed by people of all ages anywhere, anytime. Once he had his vision in mind, he set up a shop in his garage and designed and manufactured a prototype.
Rollors is a game combining a mixture of other games like bocce ball, bowling, and horseshoes. With his prototype made, he introduced the game to family and friends. With great positive responses, he knew Rollors would be the next game at backyard parties and summer picnics on the beach!
Incorporating unemployed local veterans, he combined their talents of woodworking and packaged the handcrafted wooden cone-shaped targets and discs. With a website created, the game sets began selling. Seeing how well-received Rollors was on a limited introduction, he began selling it at churches, craft fairs, and other venues.
With two wooden goals and six wooden discs, players of all ages can compete and play Rollors. Setting the two goals 25 feet apart on a grassy surface, the object of the game is for a player to roll their discs toward his goal, scoring 1 point for reaching their goal, 2 points if they touch their goal. With a custom-made carrying case, you can pack up the game and take it anywhere there is going to be outdoor gatherings.
Players roll one of the colored discs towards a color-coded, wooden goal 25 feet away. Points are awarded to the player/team that positions their disks closest to their goal. It is an excellent game for all ages and can be played in teams or individual competition.
Rollors is a physical game that is played outdoors. Participants get exercise and fresh air, all while having competitive fun. For young children, it helps develop their hand-to-eye coordination and encourage their adding and counting. For the elderly, it helps them regain and strengthen some of their agility.
From a backyard cookout to beachside cookout, birthday parties and more, Rollors is just what you need for entertainment. For Matt and his fellow veterans that have worked with him on the development of this game, they have great pleasure in seeing families in America enjoying each other’s company. Rollors is a fun new outdoor game that offers a creatively unique alternative to traditional lawn sports. Rollors is bringing the excitement back by bringing family and friends together, having fun, and enjoying the outdoors.

4 Games That Will Make Any Backyard Party A Winner
We’re going to start this off with an old school game that has some added features for today:
Washers is a classic game that has been played behind the gym for many decades but is overlooked with all of the fancy games of today. This oldie is a goodie and once the kids start flipping those washers into the boxes, the challenge is on!
This game isn’t all that old, but it has become a standby game for backyard fun. This standard version has proven to be more fun and excitement than most of us thought:
Cornhole
A competitive and entertaining game of chance and skill. You can buy cornhole boards almost anywhere these days and most of them collapse for easy storage or the trunk. Want to take it up a notch? Try this next version:
While the traditional style of cornhole is an ultimate get together, take it up a notch to the swimming pool! The inflatable version of this game will make it even more challenging and fun. Or go with this next version of a tried and true game:
Golf ball Cornhole! From a miniature putting green, getting your ball into one of the 4 holes of 3 different with goal of accumulating points. This isn’t a game for pros, it is a game for fun.
A game of chance that takes skills. Designed by an American Veteran, this game is quickly ‘rolling’ into one of American’s favorite past time. Put the horseshoes away and give Rollors a spot in the backyard.
Closing Note
Having fun again after this past year or so is going to be blessing that we won’t take for granted. Enjoy the summer but keep safe and wash your hands all throughout the day and evening.

How to entertain in your backyard
Ready or not, summer has arrived and for most of the country that has opened schools after the pandemic, the kids are out and already bored. For those of us that aren’t ready to hit the vacation roadways yet, either because pandemic concern or budget issues caused by the pandemic, here’s a few ideas to try this summer in your own backyard!
Water Balloon Piñata Smashing
Fill up several balloons with water, then hang them from trees or the old clothesline just so they are out of reach. Now let the kids smack and whack those balloons!
You don’t have to spend money on the mass produced Slip n Slide water fun. Create your own with black garbage bags. Overlap them, use duct tape to connect them, then turn the sprinkler on. Be careful! You may see the kids having so much fun, you’ll want to try it!
Hide a few of each kid’s worldly possessions, hide them around the yard, create a list of clues and keep them busy! Some of the hidden treasures could be pieces of Rollors! Once all the pieces are found, set up the Rollors game for continued fun.
You could create an elaborate mini golf course if you want or keep it simple and use pool noodles for the course and use the kids toys for the obstacles. One of the obstacles could be a game of Rollors! What mini golf course has a game within the game, right?!
Yeah, days of flour, potatoes, and sugar coming in huge sacks are gone, but get some old pillowcases out and let the game begin!
Why does everything have to be so involved? Put together a basic summer picnic lunch or supper of PB&J sandwiches, some Goldfish snack crackers, with juice boxes and take it to the backyard. Teach your kids the finer things in life that are simple.
While you’re enjoying that impromptu picnic, tell your kids about the time capsule you made and buried as a kid! Get them to suggest things to build one and you’ll have a plan for tomorrow’s entertainment!
Three new backyard games for 2021
Badminton, croquet, volleyball, hide-n-seek, chase, and tag, even horseshoes, are tried and true games for family backyard fun. While they are fun, they ‘tried and true’ and maybe boring for the kids. So, lets add some new perspective with three new games:
This new backyard game combines Foursquare with Volleyball, giving your whole family exercising fun! The nets are adjustable so it can go from the kids playing all day to the adults playing in the evening. It takes less than 10 minutes to set up and has everything you need for the fun that’s in store.
Take the basic volleyball game to another level by adding old school Foursquare to it and you’ve got some backyard fun for everyone! You can even get a water version of this game for the pool!
Let’s combine the new love for backyard cornhole and add a game of dice! PIPFALL will add a new perspective to a cornhole, taking it to a whole new level. The creator of PipFall has simply swapped the cornhole bags with dice, and using an underhand pitch, made it more challenging by NOT getting the dice in the hole!
Maybe you can reinvent the wheel …. Or at least improve upon the wagon the wheels fit! With the Wag-n-Bag, you can have a party going on in the backyard easy and quick. Instead of carrying everything for that backyard party or beach time fun, the Wag-n-Bag will tote it all, including all the outdoor games you like during summer cookouts.
The wagon disassembles with ease to the well-loved Cornhole game. Switch the board with ease to a new form of Golf Pong or Washers. This is the way to bring fun to any outdoor family gathering or summertime party.
These three games added to the fun that Rollors has brought to you the last few years, your party invitations are sure to be the first accepted and sought after invites! From kiddos to adults, even the teens, will enjoy these games.

Make the Best of Covid in Your Backyard
Last summer was the summer we’ll always remember. The entire world was on lockdown and our backyards became our oasis. While much of the world has been released, partially anyway, to return to a normal life with masks, many families are still extending their quarantine. So, what do you do for fun this summer with the kiddos?
Backyard Campout – This seems to be an idea taking off already if you go shopping online for a tent. Depending on the age of your kids will determine how to approach this activity.
Kids of all ages will get a kick out of cooking their hotdogs and making smores and tell stories around the campfire, aka, the fire pit. Get creative with the hotdog toppings with any of these recipes and add flair to your smores with thin slices of strawberries added to the stack.
Picnic with An International Flair – A backyard picnic doesn’t have to be the same old hotdogs, sandwiches, and the basics. Write down some different themes on slips of paper and let one person pull a slip out of a basket.
One example would be a Mexican theme with guacamole, (make your own chips tortilla shells!), salsa, and tacos. For the tacos, have the usual ground beef, or ground turkey, offer shredded chicken or pork. A couple of different types of cheese along with the lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Add some Mexican music in the background, and whoolaa!
Scavenger Hunting – This can take some planning, but it can also encourage some thinking too, for you and the kids. Make it a themed scavenger hunt, especially fun or younger kids. Go with things of one color, or objects that go together (like things for a Mexican themed picnic). Or things that are round and wooden - include a game of Rollors for this activity.
Even if your city isn’t still under quarantine orders, these are activities you can do with the kids this summer, or any summer, for fun. Maybe you have family coming to visit, do these things instead of a water park this year! Remember, Rollors is a game for all ages, from 2 to 92, create your own Summer Olympics.

Backyard survival guide for 2021
Summer 2020 was one for the books, one we would all like to forget! While 2021 is much better, almost post-pandemic, many families are still taking precautions. A vaccine is out and available in most places, but we’re still masking-up. While we never should have gotten to a point the government had to tell us to “wash your hands”, thankfully, more people are washing their hands more.
So what does this all mean for summer 2021? There is still concern and some fear, and some because of loss of jobs and budget, many working parents and their families are going to experience another staycation this summer. What can you do to entertain the troops at home this summer?
After a pandemic in the winter, it is important to get everyone active and outside this summer. We still think our game of Rollors is one of the greatest outdoor/indoor games ever, but we have also found a few ideas we wanted to share with you.
Build and Plant a Garden – Remember the food shortage last year? Why not build and plant a garden in the back yard this year? This will teach the kids, and even mom and dad, where food can come from, fresh, healthy food. Spoiler alert: There will be some science learning happening too!
Family Field Day – Back in the 1960s, field day was THE best day of school, well, after the last day of school. Everyone loved field day, even if they weren’t athletic at all because it meant no classes that day. Bring it on home with a field day kit you can buy online or, you can make your own with these ideas:
There are a lot of activities you can find online or create your own, much more fun that way! Just make sure to have some kind of “ribbons” or prizes, and don’t forget game of Rollors either!
Backyard Movie Night – After a busy, fun-filled Family Field Day, why not chill out with family backyard moving night? Stretch out a solid color sheet, set up a projector with the DVR or BluRay and put on some family friendly favorite movies. Make it a weekly ritual with different titles on slips of paper and somebody different gets to draw the movie of the week out.
We may not be 100% pandemic free yet and err to the side of caution is sometimes the best decision for a family. That doesn’t mean you can’t have fun though! Stay tune with us for more fun ideas to get through the post-pandemic Summer 2021.

If you have read our story, you probably know that Rollors was invented by Matt Butler, a veteran who had been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan while on active duty. The main reason why he strived to perfect the game was to offer former members of the military a fun way to unplug and create heartwarming memories with their families and friends outdoors, as he was aware that most veterans witnessed or were part of terrifying situations during their service.
What is more interesting is that the game could not have been created without the help of other veterans, whom Matt asked to aid in the carpentry of the wooden disks and targets of the original Rollors. Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that we are always eager to get involved with a good cause that focuses on veterans. This takes us to the main subject of this article, the Heroes and Sacrifices campaign, which targets veterans with cancer.=
The Heroes and Sacrifices Campaign, Meant to Bring a Little Joy to Veterans with Cancer
Every year, over 48,000 veterans receive a cancer diagnosis in the United States. However, what few people know is that, oftentimes, the underlying cause of cancer in veterans is toxic exposure that occurred in the military. Since the beginning of the last century, members of the military have been greatly exposed to hazardous agents such as mustard gas, asbestos, radiation, Agent Orange, lewisite, heavy metals, as well as PFAS, more recently. Toxic exposure has a strong connection with cancer, which can develop on various organs in the body. The most common malignant diseases among veterans are prostate cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, and melanoma.
The mission of the Heroes and Sacrifices campaign is to offer people, including companies and businesses, the opportunity to show their admiration and respect for veterans by preparing a gift basket that will go to a former member of the military who struggles with cancer. As soon as we heard about the Heroes and Sacrifices campaign, we did not think twice before partnering up with the people behind it and contributing to it as best as we could.
You Can Also Join the Heroes and Sacrifices Campaign If You Want to Help a Veteran
While you may think that receiving a gift basket cannot make that big of a difference in the life of a veteran who suffers from cancer, which is a harrowing disease, the reality is that it is actually small acts of kindness that can instantly put a smile on the face of a sick person. Sadly, many veterans live alone or, even worse, have been forgotten along with their incredible achievements in the military. For this reason, no matter what your background is, you can also brighten up the day of a former member of the military who is now in pain by preparing a gift basket that will be sent to a veteran by the law firm.
If you are interested in joining the Heroes and Sacrifices campaign, you can easily do so by filling out the form on the official page

]]>Jarts, a game of lawn darts was popular in the 1970's and into the 1980’s. Some of the big names in games and retail manufactured it, Hasbro, Regent, Sears, and others. A set of Jarts consisted four missile type darts that were a foot long with 3 fins and a blunt metal tip.
The object of the game was to throw a dart in arched manner to hit a designed target. Unfortunately, people were getting hurt when a jart missed the intended target. In the early 1980’s, a girl was killed by a mis-guided jart and with her dad’s persistence, the game was taken off the market.
New Games Replaced Jarts
With one of the most popular games out of the loop now, companies and parents started inventing more games to replace Jarts, and with great success. There is always bocci ball, badminton, and horseshoes, but there needed to be something new to keep the backyard fun, and so today we have these games, that aren’t just for the backyard:

Kubb: What’s That Game All About And Where Did It Come From?
It was started in Sweden over a 1000 years ago as simple entertainment. It would soon take off across Europe and then across America. It has the undertones of Bocce and horseshoes and adds some variations that makes it challenging, interesting, and most of all … challenging. The most unique thing about it compared to Boccee or horseshoes, which are not outdoor games in the winter, KUBB can be, even when the ground is covered in snow!
For whatever reason, KUBB is not mentioned in the history the Föreningen Gutnisk Idrott, aka "Society of Gotland Games", which was formed in 1912. However, “Nordisk familjebok”, the Swedish Encyclopedia, mentions it to be in existence as early as 1911, but in a different manner. In that version of Swedish history of outdoor games, it talks about a Skittles war called "Kägelkrig" where a ball was used in a disparity of Skittles. The first commercial sets of KUBB were introduced at the end of the 1980s, and became popular.
Some say KUBB, an exciting, fun outdoor game, is pronounced ‘koob’, although the Sweds pronounced it as ‘kɵb’ and in Gutnish they pronounce it as ‘kub’. Regardless of how you say it, KUBB is a game of strategy that takes a certain skill to play. Often referred to as the Viking Chess Game.
Today, the game is so popular, there are leagues and an annual World Competition held in Sweden on the island of Gotland. Yes, it is more than just one of the many outdoor lawn games that kids play during the summer or adults play on the beach. There are more than 200 teams in this annual event, with each team having 6 players.
Other outdoor games that have similar features of KUBB are bunnock and kyykkä, which are from the area of Karelia. What was once a game for Sweds is now an international game. And it has become a popular game in American, with Eau Clare, Wisconsin declaring itself to be “KUBB Capital of North America as of 2011. And it is there that the U.S. National Kubb Championship is held. There Kubbnation Magazine and multiple clubs as well as various leagues. In Eau Claire, there are teams at the local schools and even have sessions in the PE classes.

Importance of Game Night for Families
Before tablets, smart phones and video games, families had to entertain themselves with each other, believe it or not. These days, between all the after school activities and other commitments, you and your family can lose sight of one another. When your kids were younger, they may have loved game night with their parents, but the older they get, the busier they have become and hanging with their parents for game night might not sound as appealing as it once did before. But family game night is pretty important and you should hang on to it as long as you can. Here is why:
Game night gives you the perfect opportunity to reconnect with your kids. It is the perfect time to ask your kids what is going on in their lives, who their friends are and how is school going. The casual environment of game night allows for conversation to flow a bit easier and they won’t feel like they are being interrogated. They are too busy having fun.
Game night is also a great learning opportunity, especially for young kids. They learn how to take turns, how to socially interact with one another and depending on the game, they can even start to learn the basics of some math concepts. They will learn about being not only competitive but good sportsmanship. It also helps them learn how to follow directions as well as helps improve their communication and problem solving skills. Depending on the game, they will start to understand how to build strategies, something that they can apply to everyday life.
Another great bonus for families who make family game night important is statistically their children are less likely to participate in risky behavior. Children who feel connected to their family and in return have parents that show interest in what is going on it their lives tend to shy away from trouble. When children are bored or spend most of their time on electronic devices, this is when they can get influenced by bad behavior. It is important that children feel a bond with their family so that they shy towards the good than from bad.
Depending on the type of game you play, it can also help get your family active. While board games are pretty fun, yard games are a great way to get everyone up, on their feet and moving. Yard games are a great way to help enjoy nature and breathe in the fresh air. Rollors is an especially good game to do just that. It can be played by all ages and all skill levels. It is easy to learn and it is also great to play while also holding a conversation.
With all these awesome benefits and reasons to have family game night, how can you not make it a priority? While we would all love to think that everyone would be on board with making family game night consistent, that may not be the case. So make sure that everyone gets a chance to choose what game to play for family game night. Don’t be afraid to be silly and have fun. Remember that is the main goal – to have fun and bond with one another.
